Our Strategy
We focus on a few companies at a time to maximize our impact. Once a company meets our demands, we replace it on the list with another target. We are starting with boycotts of consumer companies, but as our movement reaches critical mass, we will reach deeper into the Republicans’ base of support methodically and relentlessly:
-
We will boycott consumer companies that supported Trump and the congressional Republicans who refuse to keep him in check.
-
We will use social media to tie companies' brands to the un-American values their money supports.
-
We will ‘blacklist’ business-to-business companies that support the Republicans and force large consumer companies to stop doing business with them.
-
We will deny university endowments of future donations until they divest from the hedge funds and Wall Street banks that support the current regime.
We can do all of this and more, and we can win, as long as we all work together.
We Need You
All of the companies currently on the CitizenVeto list made significant donations in support of the Republican Party in 2016, either directly or through their executives. Read the list, keep it handy, memorize it if you can, then boycott every product and service those companies provide. Buy nothing from these companies. Give none of your economic power to them. If enough of us act to stop Trump and the Republicans, they will recognize very quickly that the game is up. CitizenVeto will communicate our demands to every boycotted company directly and through social media.
We will keep our followers up to date so you will always know which companies we're currently targeting.
Public Companies
Public companies are particularly vulnerable to the negative publicity that accompanies a boycott. Many are so concerned with their public image that they have teams of professionals to manage it. And their investors can be skittish. Their stock prices can tank on mere rumors of poor financial results, so threats to their quarterly earnings will get the attention of the CEO. More to the point, they don’t even want to take the risk. Once this effort reaches critical mass, we will take on these larger companies, and Republican Party donors will fall like dominoes.
How It Works
Consider the case of The Crawford Group, owner of the Enterprise, Alamo, and National car rental companies. In the 2016 election cycle, the company’s executives gave more than $1.5 million to the Republican Party’s various fundraising vehicles and candidates. (Source: OpenSecrets.org) Company employees also gave smaller amounts to the Clinton campaign and some Democratic congressional candidates. But we are not conducting an ideological litmus test. The fact that they gave money to Democrats does not erase the harm being done to America by the Republican Party they helped put into office.
The Crawford Group gave the Republicans a pile of money that helped them win control of Congress, and now Republicans are using that control to undermine our rights as American citizens. I don’t know if that’s what Crawford had in mind when they made their donations and I don't care. Whether they pulled the trigger or just drove the getaway car, they deserve to be held accountable for the consequences of the crime. Hertz, Avis, and Budget made no similar contributions, so the next time I need to rent a car, I’m choosing one of them. CitizenVeto will make sure Crawford knows exactly what they need to do to win back my business.
